Dr. Marlo A. Miller is an orthodontist in Yukon, OK, at 816 S Mustang Rd. Braces or uSmile™ Clear Aligners: a Side-by-Side Look for Adults
Adults are treated either way at our Yukon office. Our FAQs say adults can have braces to address many issues, and uSmile™ Clear Aligners are the removable alternative.
- What you wear. Braces: traditional metal, Clarity™ Ceramic with tooth-colored brackets, or Incognito™ Hidden Braces on the tongue side. Aligners: a series of removable uSmile™ trays.
- How visible it is. Ceramic brackets blend in at a normal talking distance. Incognito™ braces do not show when you smile. The uSmile™ matte finish reflects back less light.
- Eating and cleaning. With braces, brush after every meal and floss before bed. Trays come out to eat and drink, and you brush and floss normally.
- Wear time. Fixed braces work around the clock. Aligners move teeth only while they are in, for the prescribed number of hours each day.
- Repairs. Braces can mean a broken wire or a poking wire tie; the instructions are in our Patient Center. Our aligner page lists no emergency appointments.
- Comfort. Soreness lasts 2 to 3 days when brackets go on or after an adjustment. uSmile™ reports 98% of patients surveyed found its aligners comfortable from first use.
- How long it takes. Braces average 12 to 36 months, the one figure we publish. Timelines across the options are broadly similar; your case decides. Both end in retainers.

Dr. Miller treats bite and alignment problems in children, teens and adults. At your first visit she reviews your health history and concerns and examines your teeth, bite and jaws. A consultation two weeks later reviews your treatment and financial plans.

- Children who are still growing: The Myobrace System®, a removable appliance worn for a few hours a day and while sleeping. The American Association of Orthodontists says children should have an evaluation by an orthodontist by age 7.
- Airway orthodontics: airway scans, palatal expanders, and tongue tie and release, which Dr. Miller and a pediatric dentist perform together.
Your first visit, step by step
- Before you come: fill in the new patient forms from our Patient Center, or arrive 15 minutes early to complete them here. Bring your insurance card and coverage information.
- At the visit: you watch a short video that introduces orthodontic treatment. Dr. Miller then reviews your health history and main concerns and does a brief visual exam of your teeth, bite and jaws.
- Records: we take diagnostic records that day or book a visit to take them. If we need more information, we may use our i-CAT v17 CBCT scanner for 3D images of your teeth and jaw.
- Two weeks later: a consultation reviews your treatment and financial plans. We help you find out what your insurance covers and plan the balance, and we accept CareCredit.

What kinds of braces do you offer in Yukon?

How long do braces take?

Dr. Miller examines your teeth, bite and jaws at your first visit, and a consultation two weeks later reviews your treatment plan. Treatment ends with retainers, which you wear as instructed.
At what age should my child see an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists says children should have an evaluation by an orthodontist by age 7. An evaluation is not the same as starting treatment. Younger patients may require some treatment to prepare for braces, and Dr. Miller discusses that at the initial consultation. She treats children, teens and adults.
Will I have to get teeth pulled for braces?
Each case is considered individually. Some patients need teeth pulled to achieve optimal results, and some do not. Nothing is decided from a website. We take diagnostic records at or soon after your first visit, and the consultation two weeks later goes through what your own treatment plan involves.
Can my child play sports or a musical instrument with braces on?
Yes. With an appropriate mouth guard you can play sports. Ask us, and we provide the mouth guard or athletic mouthpiece at no extra charge. Instruments are fine too. It may take some time to get used to it, but you can definitely play with braces on.

Your journey to straighter teeth begins with a consultation. Dr. Miller will examine your teeth and relevant x-rays and image studies. If we need more information, we may use our i-CAT scanner for imaging, along with other technology, to create your treatment plan.
We use i-CAT v17 – CBCT award-winning 3D diagnostic imaging. We can take 3D digital images of your teeth and underlying jaw structure with exceptional detail.
Younger patients may require some treatment to prepare for braces. Dr. Miller will discuss this with you at the initial consultation.
